bought a 1970 as1e about a year ago thought i would have nothing better to do than just apply for doc,s (have reg number) after a few letters back and fwd to dvla ended up taking bike to dundee office for a vehicle check it now turns out that chassis number and engine number do not match grrrr the guy at local office going to do a bit more digging to see if he can do anything for me but he is not hopeful so not sure what to do next ?? maybe break for spares or can age related plate be given in a case like this.. thanks for any info

if not matching numbers id just buy a second hand frame complete with v5 document and number plate. leave the front and back ends pretty much intact and you can swap all parts over in a day

Surely if the reg number matches the frame common sense would say the engine has been changed and they forgot to tell DVLA and docs for engine number would be issued with the corrected engine number.
But then again it is the DVLA we are talking about. Positive is that you are dealing with a local officer who is trying to help rather than a voice on the phone at Swansea giving it " computer says no"

yes steve the local guy likes the bikes so he is trying his best to help out as you say its not often you get a helpfull person in jobs like this .. im not in a hurry with this bike anyway so will just hang off just now to see what happens

If DVLA refuse your registration we can either get an age related plate or apply for the original registration even if its not listed on the DVLA database as long as you have some evidence that the reg you have is for that bike. Ie old tax/MOT. registrarion plate etc. The first thing to do would be get the VIN checked on the database. This costs £5

hi paul i have old style number plate on bike also have old tax disc from 2002 the bike has been reg,s as historic vehicle so must be on data base somewhere .. i will contact you in new year if dvla have no joy
