If the part number is 29L-12411-00 this is the thermostat listed for the UK YPVS models Not the early 4LO ones as these had no stat fitted.

thats the one, so do we think it will fit? Might have one, would have to look. You can have it for nowt if I find one. Still think you would need the housing machined to fit. Steve

If I have the same stat as you Mick, as Steve says, housing will need to be machined.

Just froze my ass off in garage, that's what I get for popping out in shorts and t shirt before I got dressed for work.
I have a YPVS stat that you are welcome to. It does not have the rubber sealing ring around it ( took it off to use on my 50 degree stat) but this may be ok for you if you are not wanting to machine the housing. I dare say you could use a flap wheel to reduce the outer diameter so it fits in the original housing and bond it in. It can't go anywhereso you just need to stop it rattling around.
Just remember to drill a 3 - 4 mm hole in it to allow some bypass circulation when it is shut.
pm me your address and I will pop it in the post if you want it.

I wonder why the 4LO & 4L1 LCs never had a stat fitted in the first place? Other W/C 2ts have stats, so what makes these bikes different? Can't be down to a tropical climate here! where a stat would impede a certain amount of flow.

If there is no rubber ring fitted to the stat, then it may fit in a standard housing, the outer diameter will fit nicely inside the gasket and the housing will clamp it down on both, it may need a (slightly thicker gasket). I machined the housing to fit my stat, took less than 5 minutes. I think there is a post here somewhere on the BB with pictures.

there is already a bypass hole / channel in the casting, to allow fluid to circulate around the stat, before it opens, but I did drill a hole "just in case"
