debate at the minute with me my mum and my grandad. i'll put you in the picture. 2 months ago grandad had a car smash...totally his fault, he didn't give way at a t juction and a car hit him that was on the main road. both cars written off although he has got another car and insurance paid out. Grandad is 79, he is fit but his eyesight and general awareness of what is on the road around him is not good.
should he a: wait til he has or causes another accident, b: surrender his licence instead of re-applying next year again or c: take a few refresher lessons with a proper instructor
how do i approach this tricky subject as he is a very proud man but i don't want to see him in another accident like that one.
when i had my bike smash, i hit a car illegally parked yet i had my licence suspended for 6 months and ordered to sit an extended retest to get licence back. once you get to 70 you have to re-apply every 5 years......... opinions please.

what would of happend if it was a BIKER and not a car,he could of killed someone. i would stress to him that and try to get him on a refresher course and see how he gets on. it may make him think himself about giving up if a third party tells him hes a sh*t driver.... alternativly give him a bus pass.........

he needs an eye test NOW!... ...and someone else should drive him there...jambo is right,as much as you love the old fellah, and proud as he is,he is a danger to himself and others by the sound of it... ...new glasses and some refresher lessons may be enough for him to carry on driving, but if he causes another crash n hurts himself or someone else,it will be too late

Option C chick. My Grandad is 91 this year! Still driving, but we made him do the test thing just to be sure.

Some peoples driving standards improve if they buy an automatic.
They have a lower chance of an accident if they have less to concentrate on.........gear selection , throttle position , biting point etc
Suggest that to the old fella...............might boost his confidence a bit too.
