Hi Guys I have just started a renovation on My 86 F2 that was last ridden by myself 16 years ago and has been living in the garage ever since. need to replace the fork seals,i have removed the allen bolt from the bottom of the leg and drained the oil, in the manual it shows a removal of a nut from the top of the stantion obviosly the f2 doesnt have this, do i just hammer out the seal by by pulling the fork leg down. Dont want to damage anything any advise greatly appreciated. Cheers Dave

What do you have at the top of the legs then, an air valve? You can do what you suggest, but by removing the nut/valve/cap etc, it allows you to fill the legs with oil, and set the level correctly, (usually done with the springs out, and fork compressed). Obviously you will be able to clean everything up too, so you've got to get the cap off first would be my suggestion.

Cheers Dave press it down. remove circlip slowly allow it to rise. Ditto. Best use a socket that is bigger internally than the air valve and push down on the top of the fork, it should slide down about 10mm and reveal a circlip. I found it was a 2 man job getting the circlip off and was very fiddly, but surprisingly easy to get back on!!

Obviously there is also a large wire circlip above the seal that needs removing I have done fork seals without even removing the fork spring and top plug/cap. Undo bottom allen bolt, remove dust seal and circlip and slide hammer the old seals out. Reverse process, turn fork leg upside down and refill oil through allen bolt hole with a funnel and bit of tubing.
