So the plan now the bike is home goes like this. - Strip the bike completely inspecting what needs to be repaired/refurbed/replaced
- Get Frame, Swingarm, Wheels and all the other little bits that need it powdercoated
- Find a good fuel tank, the current one is a bit too rusted for my liking even with a tank lining
- Top end engine strip and clean/inspection. (What I find will direct what happens here....)
- Buy a few shiny goodies, braided brake lines, silicone coolant hoses, billet water pump. I'm sure this list will grow......
- Plus I need to decide what to do with the bodywork, at the moment it is reasonable and original but not perfect. I'd like perfect, but then it's likely to get worn in use anyway so I may just give it a good polish for now....
- Rebuild it all in time for spring so it can come out in all it's glory.
I will keep the updates coming as I move along....

Yep, It seems very complete and generally unmolested which is what I like. Most of the screws etc look like they have never been touched which Is a good sign as too many people seem to like to use the wrong size screwdriver and wreck things.....

It does seem tempting to molest it, but maybe I need another that is less standard for that.....

So made a bit of progress today, bike fully stripped to just a frame. Thought I was going to have issues with a few rusty bolts but only had the two rear mudguard bolts shear off, but managed to get the rest of the bolt out with some blowtorch and mole grip action once the plastic was out of the way. Here's how it is now.... Found a few things that need a bit of work on them, the bushes in the swingarm for the link arms are very worn. Possibly the link arms too will have to get measuring and see which it is though..... The headlight/mirror/fairing bracket needs a bit of welding as it seems a mirror has been knocked off in the past. The sidestand could do with having a new pad welding to the bottom too. Does anyone know if you can still get new main stand bolts? The powervalve joining piece is on there tightly at the moment but the screws are a bit ruined. Other than that the bike seems to be in great shape and I was very suprised that all the bolts came out so easily without stripping or snapping. So far it has been a pleasure to work on

Thanks for that, good to know what is still available. Need to start the process of cleaning/sorting now. Frame, swingarm, wheels and brackets etc will all be going off to be powdercoated.
Engine will come apart for inspection once my clutch and flywheel tools arrive.

Its all moving too quickly....i feel dizzy.....i prefer my pace.....an item a month...lol It will slow down a bit for a few weeks now. Various other engagements are stealing my spare time..... I don't want it finished too early or it will tempt me to get it on the road whilst it is still winter....

Frame, swingarm and various other bits have been dropped off at redditch shotblasting this morning to get powdercoated . Will pull the engine apart this week and decide what needs doing. My wallet says keep it standard, my heart says get some porting and a rebore. Heart will probably win..... Heart also says 28mm carbs, tsa road pipes and a zeeltronic...... That might be a longer term heart winning over head... Does anyone know if yamaha still sell the foam surrounds for the clocks?

A month in and the engine has been stripped. Crank needs a rebuild/exchange as the main bearings are all a bit rumbly, powervalve joint needs replacing. It's going to get a rebore while I am in there as although it is not worn out I want it to be good for a long time.... No one ever said this was going to be cheap..... No photos because everyone knows what a stripped ypvs looks like . I will post more pics as the build goes on...

Had a fairly productive weekend, have got the engine cases and head cleaned of all the dirt and road grime. And have got the pistons out from the front calipers. The rear caliper is proving to be a little more troublesome.... One piston is on the move but I can't get the second one to move yet.
Ordered some paint for the head/top case and calipers. But have the fun of paint stripping to go through first. And I couldn't find any shop in the area open on a sunday that sells much other than overpriced not so good nitromors...

Went to Norbo's house of goodies today and came back with quite a few things to help the rebuild carry on. Also got my powervalve's and bushes back from getting new bronze bushes put in, big thanks to Mart13 from the TDR club for this.
All the brake calipers are apart now, and have bought some "trade use only" paint stripper from ebay. Tested it on one caliper half, this stuff is better than Nitromors ever was.... But it is now very cold outside, and in the garage.
Getting there slowly with all the parts I need for the re-build.
