Just about to buy some 2 stroke oil and was wondering is Castrol R still available with the same nostalgic and distinctive smell? and if so is it any good compared to the modern stuff ?

IIRC it wasnt that great for roadbikes running autolube back in the day..Could be wrong thou as that memory dates back to the 80s!
I know where your coming from thou, I used to add a drop in the tank of my commuter bikes for the smell !

Hi
Also remember it reacts badly with mineral oils (being castor based).
A karting shop might be an easy place to get it
All the best

Be careful of how much of this stuff you use. It can gum up carbs like you wouldn't believe! Keep burning the fuel and don't leave any in the tank during a lay-up. I put some in my lawn mower to get the smell when cutting the lawn. God, I'm so sad!!!

Hi I put some Castor Oil from the chemist in my R1 baffle packing, pull up and a wave nice smells surround you, i just inject it in through the baffle tube holes, have done the same to 2 strokes over the years, all the smell with no risk of gumming.

Good idea. How long does it last / how often do you have to re inject it ? Do you think putting a very small amount of the normal caster oil in the petrol would work ?

Hi, dont put it in your petrol, probably end up gumming something up, lasts the summer, depends how much you put into your baffle packing, smells awesome, i did pour some down my r1 pipe but it gummed up one of my exup valves (soon cleaned out) so as long as its all soaked in your lower half of your packing you cant go wrong. i inject it, 2x20cc lasts months.
