One day I'll be wise enough to offer help but again I have to ask for it! Can anyone clarify where this stray black wire should go? I've put a continuity tester on it and it's not an earth but there are no other wires that are missing a female end to make a circuit. Any ideas? I renewed the battery wires to the loom today, they're all nicely crimped and shrink wrapped so I feel a little self achievment, well I did until I found this wire and have no idea where it's meant to be! I like this kind of therapy..... ;D Attachments:

Hi, I am not too familiar with the YPVS models,as the only YPVS I have had is a 4L0 with a 31K engine in it, but the 4L1/4L0 loom has a "spare" black wire like that one down near the indicator relay, which was used on the German models, which did not have self cancelling indicators fitted. I am wondering if your "spare" black wire on your YPVS is for something similar? Steven.

Thanks so far guys, mine was originally was for the Swedish market so maybe they didn't have self cancelling indicators either? at the moment they don't cancel automatically. The bike has only been used once since import 7 yrs ago so maybe it is to do with the indicators? Looking at it closely it seems to have never been attached as there is no signs of use also there are no other ends that need a black wired connection and it doesn't seen to reach anywhere.

Just had a look in the Genuine Yamaha manual for the LC2 and it looks like the Yellow/Black wire from the flasher relay plugs into it for the German models as these don't have the self cancelling unit so on the other countrys it is spare as Steven has mentioned above. Wiring diagram shown here : www.rd350lc.net/WM31K-8.pdfLooks like you should have continuity between this Black wire and the Black earth wire to the battery. Tone

Thank you for the top tips guys. I'll try the circuit tester on it tomorrow once it's cleaned up and see if it is in fact an earth, if not as the bike works without it I'll leave it tucked away.

If it black then it should only be for earth - spare or not.

Had a tinker today after cleaning it up and putting a continuity tester across it the wire isn't an earth. For the moment I will leave it doing no harm until all circuits are checked for operation. Thanks again for your help.

I recently replaced the entire loom on my F2 (1UA) and I can confirm that in that exact position I have a spare yellow green wire that goes nowhere. I don't know what it is for, but it is NOT for the self cancelling unit as that is further back.
As far as I can tell, they are all like that, sir.

So long as I've not go anything untoward it can stay there a while longer. I'm sure I'll have a ponder on something else when I tinker again.
