Having exhaust cracking and checked the engine mounts. Is this normal. Looks correct with the Haynes manual as only the left side appears to have a damber ring but this rh has the gap to the bracket? Just me but I would háček thought it should be snug between the mounts? Really apprecite a reply from some one as it's now stopping me going out in this jive weather. It's a k31 ypvs front rh engine mounts Thanks

The engine is rubber mounted, the crank cases are not supposed to touch the frame brackets. the rubber mounts in the cases have steel tubes inside them which are wider than the crank case mounts, these tubes are tight against the frame brackets. There are two rubber backed metal washers, one on the front L/H side mount & one on the rear R/H side mount, these counter act the twisting force under acceleration, quite often these get left out which could cause the problems you describe

Thanks for replies.
The lh front and rh back must be in as the casing is flush to the brakets with it look like a rubber washer wihich i expectvare the dambers you describe above
Planning to put one to fill that space. must be better don't think it will cause any problem except perhaps take and possible movement out..
Rh Exhaust have cracked twice now.
Only other thing is I noticed the exhaust flange after acfew coats of paint has fixed solid to the top of th pipe.. I wonder if this having no movement is causing problems. Ie should the spring are really doing nothing....
Or it could be a simple fac the the 15 yr old nikkon are now had it.
