They allow a better flow of fuel to the transfer ports and manipulate air intake giving a better pick up and drive out of corners. By moving the cages further back slightly.,They shift power toward the bottom end for better drive. They also help reduce splutter and powerband lag that some bikes with a tune or pipes suffer from. It is a bit tricky to get the carb on but if you get the reed spacer rubber side in first then use a right angle screwdriver to hook the air box rubber around the carb body,if you still can't do it post here as I will be taking mine of soon to put a new jet in and I will take some pics

Ok here is the pics for fitting carb first remove the speedo cable slide and oil pipe ,removing the speedo cable just gives you a little bit more room Un do the clips and twist the carb taking it out of the left side then fit your reed spacer .refit the carb by twisting it in flating the air box rubber to get the reed block side in first once you get to this stage you can use your angle screwdriver or Allen key would do .you may have trouble keeping the air box rubber from pushing though into the box but keep trying ,also you might find it easer to remove the air box rubber clip and undo it bend it open and fit it after you have the rubber in place I've got away without doing it here put the screw driver in and pull the rubber round Also fit the fuel pipe before refitting carb as its a pain to get on after(space is tight) Then put your bits back on and away you go:-)
