Just bought this gen yam gasket for the 125 to try and dial out that leak once and for all! Paid 25 quid plus postage and its of the same quality/composition as the pattern ones! Not happy at all! Would be very surprised if it seals, I've tried everything- aha

I think the silicone sealant may be a prroblem. It should only be used when (or if you suspect) you may have problems sealing the stuff. I bought the same head gasket for my dads Mk1 (genuine Yamaha, it looked exactly like yours) and I didn't use any sealant. AFAIK it doesn't leak yet.
In fact, I'm fairly sure the black surface on the gasket IS a kind of sealant. It's just hard to feel it on a new gasket, but once under pressure, it'll act like a sealing material. This is quite obvious when you take the head off an engine with a similar gasket. You'll most likely hear the gasket cracking off, (unless it comes off very fast or manage to not crack the black stuff) it's the black stuff that are torn off the metal of the gasket.

Personaly i allways use some sealent with them they may not need it but i use it any way just to be ion the safe side . and frankley i have never used a gen yam head gasket ever on any bike i have built and never had a headgasket go on eny top end i have ever built . i may use patten gaskets but not the real cheepo Gold wing type dont get me wrong im not saying all patten gaskets are the same . Gen yam are allways the best but the head gaskkets are just silly money and i wont use them becourse of that .
