Hi Im going to replace my crankshaft oil seal on the flywheel side, when fitted should the flatter side be facing outwards with the castleations on the inside towards the bearing? or should the castleations be seen from the outside,
thanks mudguts

Take a close look at the seal and you will notice that one side of it has rubber covering all surfaces, and the other side does not. The side that has rubber covering everything should be facing outwards towards the flywheel. And as a side note, if you are planning on replacing the R/H seal aswell, make sure to stick the metal spacer into the seal BEFORE sticking the seal into the engine case. If you don't, it can be a living hell getting the metal spacer into the seal (even if you have lubed everything like mad). PS; a bit of oil around the seal and/or in the seal seat in the engine case helps pushing it in.
