i stripped a pair of forks today to rebuild on some new stachions i have coming and found a 1.75 inch long insert in the top of one of them.
could this have been used to stiffen the fork?

was just the one. ive had to match up pretty much everything. they had different lenth springs in them as well as different spindle's and tapers. luckily i had plent of parts to choose from.
