Welcome in. Kick start the engine in gear with the ignition off. If the bike shunts forward then the kick start is ok and you need to look else where. Possibly a holed piston.

Whip the side casing off, sounds like the spring, or the locating tag is possibly broken (could be a bit of casing too?) Might just have jumped out the locating hole, easy fix. probably need a gasket if it's not been apart for a long time (first ride/rebuild)

If the kick start stays down when you kick its the spring, a compn problem and simple and cheep to fix if you kick down and the kicker returns right back up then its likely to be the piston . again simple to fit and not loads of money to fix . and welcome to the froum . how about a pic of you bike then .

Hi guys thanks for your help. Went up last night to take engine out and tried the kickstart hey ho compression. Started the bike up went up and down the gears no problem shut off and tried again no compression. Put it in gear and moved back and forward kicked again away she went took for a run no problems. Could it be the kickstart gear or spring as suggested (Kickstart goes back up) Cheers again for your help(will get a pic up soon soon as my son can do it iam hopeless with computors

I may be way off the mark here but are you expecting it to kick over like a Royal Enfield ? If you yourself are not used to strokers then it might feel like there is not much compression there, indeed the motor can be started by hand. Just a thought.

Don't take the engine out just for the kickstart, doesn't the sidecase just come off?? not too sure on 125 (if that's what bike you mean?)

Hi mate i have a spare engine thats why i was taking the engine out. Will take the side casing off and have a look . I think it could be something to do with the kickstart mechanism either loose or broken to have the compression come and go as it is

I'm far from sure but it sounds to me like the kickstart gear is jamming on the klickstart shaft or something, and therefore it doesn't engage against the idle gear, so the engine doesn't turn around when kicking. Otherwise I dunno, I guess your best bet is to pop the side cover off and have a look. Just remember to drain the oil first lol. Btw, a tip would be to drive the bike a few miles so the engine gets warm, that way the tranny oil will come out much easier as warm oil is more "watery" if you know what I mean.
