Starting to put some miles on my 4L0 but the exhuast nuts keep coming loose. It's a pre tie bar set up so shakes like a sh*tting dog. I seem to remember thats the reason for the beefed up front pipes. Should I just douple nut the front pipes? Nylocs will just melt. Cheers Webbo

On my F2 I use flange stainless nuts with the serrated bottom to get them to lock, just like the ones people use for the barrel nuts. ...

what about a "split washer "underneith each nut? im not 100% sure there called a split washer but they look like a washer with split on,almost like 1 coil of a spring.

The Genuine ones I ordered for my LC2 are actually self locking type where the end of the nut is squashed down a bit so as you tighten the nut it grips the stud. Also found an old Technical Bulletin that was sent out to dealers regarding exhaust gasket leakage on the early models and it recommends removing the collar from the rear rubber mount and reducing the length from 22mm to 20mm which helps the exhaust from shaking too much but keeps it rubber mounted.

You could also use castle nuts like on the wheel axle bolts, but you need to drill the small holes in the studs for the split pins. I had the same problem on my old LC.

Webbo, since the re-build how many times have you re-checked/re-tightened the exhaust nuts ? The nuts are not the issue here. You can lock together as many nuts as you like but this will still result in a loose joint as its the exhaust gasket that needs to be maintained and bedded in. Once done then no issues. On both my bikes I do not have the slightest weep at the exhaust joint.

Cheers.
