Hi all. I've approached a company regarding "possible" manufacture of 31k Plastic Petrol Tanks. Now I would like some honest answers regarding price. What would you pay for one? Cheers Nick

are plastic tanks legal on a bike? never really thought about it before, but i thought it was illegal to carry cans of fuel on a bike, and presumed it was because the cans are plastic?

I recently asked my local bike MOT tester if fibreglass tanks were legal, he stated there was no reference to petrol tank material in the test only that it had to be securely fitted to the bike/frame. I MOT bikes and thats correct, its not tested on the MOT, plus my KTM has a plastic tank fitted as standard.

i thought that if a veichle came from the factory with a metal tank,it must use a metal tank under the veichle type approval regs??wasnt that thereason why acerbis lost loads of money in the 80"s coz they made loads of plastic tanks for off-road bikes, but werent allowed to fit/use them after-market.??

As long as it was a Plastic tank and not a Fiberglass/Carbon Fiber tank then it would be a good idea.
The TZR 4dl uses a plastic tank. TBH I think the F2 tank would be more popular than the 31k. I would guess at about £150-200.

I would think about £200-£250
Any more and people will just hang on for a metal one. Legend struggled to get people to pay £350 for lc metal ones. Would want make sure they were ethanol resistant and would take paint ok. Steve
