time for and update. ive swapped everything over to the registered frame and sent the v5 off to change the engine number. found a near new loom and got it fitted along with my newly aquired powervalve servo and control box.( woohoo working powervalve) even heard the servo running its start up cycle. changed the forks for some with a top nut rather than the bloody stupid circlip and while i was at it got 2 sets of stainless tops made to replace the rather cheaply made aluminium ones. one set with a standard profile and another with a 2.5 inch slug attached to pre-tension the springs. may even get a third set made so i can do adjustable tension or even air assisted forks. still got parts off at powdercoating, but have decided to use the original wheels that came with the bike. They even have a decent set of metzeler me22's. finally things are coming together, got 10 days off from monday and that should give me plenty of time to get her finally fired up. will take some pictures and add them later

Good luck next week. But if you hit problems and start looking for your fag lighter, remember its bombfire night the week after ;D ( when I'm doing this sort of thing I make sure I've put the lump hammer somewhere where I can't find it, which means putting it somewhere bleeding obvious) A.P. sorted the spark out, whoever owned the switches before me had wired it up wrong. quick change over and booyah we have sparks. decided to dump the twin rear light. the bulb holders were getting to hot and causing shorts in the wiring. so have gone back to the original fitting.

So i put the tank on from my road bike and gave it 5 mins for the carb to fill. put a healthy amount of 2t down the plug hole and checked my fluids. will admit to being more than a little nervous as im only going on the word of the previous owner (lets not forget this was someone else's abandoned project) that it had been overhauled (plus a look at the bore and piston while the carb was off). and it did all look new. first kick and nothing, second kick a splutter and then third kick we have life. could see and hear the powervalve pulley working. didnt run it for too long, just enough to put some heat in it. gonna have to make a list of the bits i need to finish. very much doubt it will be on the road before next march. so plenty of time to put a bit of money to one side.

looking good mate, is this going to be your new ride and ditching the mk1?

Post by raven13 on Dec 1, 2012 10:34:44 GMT 1
this will be my daily ride from next spring.still got a few things to sort out, im gonna ditch the clip ons and use risers and bars, im gonna bring the mk1 into the flat and strip it. got a few idea's to make it a bit different, really fancy an "old skool" style paint job. got a couple of other bikes on my purchase list, TDR, TZR, RD air cooled, AR and some sort of hybrid. but keeping a bike on the road is my main focus.

long time no update. not a lot has happened with the build. but im off work this week so can crack on a bit. bought an exhaust looking for a decent end can. ive put risers and red renthals on as these are wider than standard bars and suit me a bit better, but i needed longer cables as the bars stretch the standard one to their max. ive ordered a custom cable kit so i can make up the cables i need to the exact lenth. will add some pictures tomorrow.

I found some aftermarket ones on the bay that were threaded (only 70quid) Then got the tops custom made.

ok so its been a long time since i posted anything in here. update time ditched the mk3 ypvs engine as it wouldnt run properly. spent a few months sourcing a decent set of mk1 cases and a good quality top end only +0.75 rebore. been tinkering and finally today she was taken for the test. only 1 thing wrong with it, the headlight needed adjusting. but that was sorted instantly and we have a pass. got it taxed and now im running it in. Would like to thank everyone here that gave help, advice and support over the last 17 months and especially Norbo. without him most of us would have given up long ago as he is not only a vital source of parts but provides us with a great community forum. here are a few finished pictures. still need the odd part, i.e mk1 oil pump cover if anyone has one. also gonna refurb a sidecasing but for now in just glad she's running. As always your comments, compliments and critisisms are welcome.
