Hi Im new to YPVS ownership and I picked up a 1986 F2 31K last weekend.
Everything looks ok except for the forks which are really soft and deck out at the slightest downward force.
I am about to strip them down and rebuild with 15W fork oil but I was wondering does anyone in the UK do emulators as they all seem to be in the US?
Thanks for any info, hopefully MOT this weekend!!

If they are that soft you'd be better fitting Hagon progressive springs when you change the oil, rather than the other bits.

Hi mate and welcome to the site . I think once you have fitted new seals it will be a lot better . I normaly addn a little more oil to each leg and for theat extra bit of firmnes i cut a old clutch spring in half and place it on a top hat washer on top of the fork spring . That sorts it out a treeet and costs nothing .
Do you have a pic of your new steed.
OEB How about putting the info on hear mate

Hi all,
Thats for the replys
Norbo,
I assume all will become clear on the size of the top hat washer when I open up the forks and I have a lathe to create some but is the clutch spring a YPVS clutch spring or any?and what length?
The bike is on the bench now so will post pictures once the forks are done unless I can find the pictures the seller posted online
Thanks

Well forks are out and oil dropped into a bucket. The Oil is relatively new and there is no leaks on the seals so I'll put 15w oil in and the mod suggested by Norbo and see how I get on.
One thing I did notice was there was no air in the "air assisted bit" I believe it should be 2 PSI and I assume a footpump would do to pump them back up.

yes thats right, but be careful you dont pump to much in,as a footpump cant messure 2 psi!

isnt 5psi standard you should really use a correct pump for this small psi.you could easily put too much in with footpump so go slowly

If you want to uprate your forks, Maxton do a conversion that keeps the original look.

I have put a couple of springs cut down and a couple of top hat washers in as well just sit them on top of your springs and they will improve it a bit. but by the sounds of it your springs ar well past best and need replacing . Still in the meen time im shure this simple mod will help .

I remember " back in the day " being advised to put 4 2 pence pieces on top of each spring to stiffen them up. Worked well as you could use them like shims to adjust them, fit in perfectly.

Apart from emulators, I have tried everything but I found progressive springs to be the cure for my F2's front end evils. The harder I brake, the better they work ;D I run at atmospheric pressure as well

I packed mine up with about 30mm worth of washers super glued together - saved on new springs. I use a bicycle pump and a digital gauge, be very careful, only takes about 3 pumps. Running mine at approx 8psi and have no complains from 30 year old suspension. Also using 15w oil - nice and firm now ;D.
