hello all,i am looking for your thoughts and idea's on which path to take with my lc build.i have a couple of choices with regards wheels and swingarms, but it isnt a money no object build.at the mo,it has standard runnig gear, and i may well use this to start with anyways, but i also have an xj600 front and rear ends.the front end i think will be a direct swapfor the lc one,but the wheels are slightly wider.the rear of course will need modifying to get onto the lc swinga.my first choice would be to retain the standard swinga as i would like to keep the wheelbase short.i do have a gullarm from a cbr400 which i may use yet, which would probably allow easier fitment for the wheel, but would obviously be costly to get modified to fit the frame.i also have a set of kr1 wheels.these are the same spindle size as the xj wheels so wouldnt be any easier/harder to fit the rear, but would need fettling to fit the xj forks.at the moment my first choice is fit the xj wheels to keep the lc/pv look, the rim is actually smaller on the rear than the kr1(mt2.5 as opposed to 3.5 for the kr1 wheels)but would allow fitment of a 130 section tyre.i know this wont give me a better choice of tyre, but slightly wider would look better from the rear mefinx.so......if you had the choice of wheels tyres and swingarms i have, which way would you choose to go? and if i decided to go with the xj wheels, has anyone got any ideas to fit the rear? i have the xj swinga which is a lot longer than the lc one,but i thought about cutting the axle plates out and having them welded onto the outside of the lc swingarm.anyone think this would be the easiest way???

Hi, It's always easier to keep wheels mated to their respective forks/swingarm as you then don't have issues with disc offsets, brake calipers etc. I have an Lc with a powervalve front end which slots straight in. The rear is a powervalve set up which was done by a previous owner. Not particularly trick looking but parts are cheap to buy, tyres are available, chain run works out ok and it all looks like it could have been made by Yamaha. I also have had a couple of Rd400's with Lc style swingarms. 1 had a powervalve rear wheel fitted relatively easily; The other had a Tzr 2ma rear wheel which was 17" and this mod needs an offset front sprocket; I had an Fzr400 wheel that I tried to fit in an Lc wheel but it was just too wide. My latest project Ypvs has Kr1 front and rears which I think look awesome, but front would need a stem swap and rear would require a lot of work to work on an Lc; There is always a trade off between the look that you want/ how hard it is to achieve and therefore how much it will cost. Perhaps speak to some one like Nigel Kimber at Nk Racing, as he is a font of knowledge regarding these issues. Good luck Dusty

hi dusty, thanks for the reply, they are some lovely looking bikes you have.i love the look of the wheels in the top one,how theyve been painted etc.i love the look of all rd's,and theres something about pv wheels which helps retain the look.out of curiosity do you know what the rim size is on the pv rear wheel?
cheers

Hi mate ive gone with the CBR 400 gullarm on my Hybrid build check out Lc hybrid build so far for pic's in the rebuild's section running the complete cbr rear end with RGV front Nige at Nk racing did the conversion including making spacer's and bearing sleeve's to fit the cbr front wheel in to the RGV fork's i went that way as the cbr arm is cheaper than Rgv and also not as common as the the Rgv swap i will second Dusty on that speak to Nigel at Nk top bloke and very helpfull as when i started this over the winter i had'nt tinkered about with an Lc for over twenty years and was not sure which way to go on the build.
