question on exhaust expansions

Ok, my rd125lc has a late micron fitted (large ali end can without tapered downpipes like the early short cans), I took it apart to de-coke yesterday and noticed the "stinger" on this is huge! I mean it goes right down the chamber when I'm used to seeing them at like 2" long... So I removed it completely and found the bike runs better low end and still has a very nice powerband at 5-6k like before but my question is-
Will this cause damage / piston slap over time? I know that the stingers are used to increase back pressure but would removing them completely cause problems?

P.S. I'm thinking of cutting the stinger down to 2" and re-fitting but looking for advise

i've just fitted my microns onto my 350.
I had cut down stingers on mine when i bought them. They are a certain length as you say to do with controlling the gasses,mine are 220mm now as they should be. They were designed to work like that,with the stinger that length.
Some say they are there purely to make them quieter others say micron new what they were doing.i agree with the latter and had mine corrected and the pipes sound nice and perform very well.

I believe the choice is yours m8

I had heared it both ways some cut them down and some leave them . it try it cut down and keep the pice you cut of and if you dont like it its simple to weld it back on again . you can realy loos.

cheers for the comments... Like I've said, I'm running it without at the moment and its louder and gained a little low end pull without loosing much if any top end. Anyway, I'm going to cut it down to about 2" and re-fit it.

i swapped end cans on my micron on my 125 and lost 5mph but when u fit stinger out of micron can in other got it back. so if might have something to do with it
