Not for the RD but having a little problem with the new chain on my Ace.
Bought a new chain ages ago ( before winter hibernation set in ) fitted it but using a tool the hollow end soft link split, tried a spare and the same again.
Yesterday I had another one that I fitted but done it with a Ball ended hammer etc. Dont think it is mushroomed over quite enough so haw much should they be done, slightly, visible, fully over?
Also am I right in thinking most 530 HD soft links as the same size, as in can I just buy one from a different make just incase I split another one again.
Cheers

no the links from make to make are not the same you need to fined the same make . why not just fior a split link. I know they dont come as standard with 530 chains but you can get them they are only about £3.50 i think .

Cheers,
I got a few split links but on the last soft link, split three already and dont want to split this one.
So many for's and against for split links on larger bikes BUT may just use one.

if u r on about the type u need to peen the pins over u do it just enough to hold the side plate, too tight and u will have a tight link as long as the pins are burred over its normally enough as the forces will be trying to throw it the opposite way,not off sideways also u need a proper tool.i had a motrax cheapy thing n it was fookin useless.Went to local bike shop who lent me theirs and still need to use a decent hammer on it.but that was on my R1
