my new project has no spark i have check for power at most wires from/to ie coil cdi reg/rect generator should i have live to these they all seem dead thinking they only come live when running not sure my tester is the basic one with a bulb in it hope some one can point me in the right direction

It may help to give us a clue what sort of bike you have.
If it's a 350 Yamaha water cooled 2 stroke twin, then the ignition is self generating and you won't find +12v on any ignition related wire without the engine turning over.

try nick fubber he has made up looms and stuff and would be the man to ask .
You should get resistence reeding from the stator and HT coil but you wont get anything from cdi's . the haymns book gives you the daya on the Ht and stator winding .

checked that now discoverd when i kick it over i get brief power red wire going to cdi but nothing else my thoughts are cdi the bike has been stood for a few years

As said, need more info, what bike is it the type of tester you have is no good you need a half decent digital one which measures low resistances. If its not the kill circuit which basically earths out the ignition system via the ignition switch, kill switch or side stand switch then you need to start pulling plugs apart & checking the resistance of the trigger coil, source coils, ignition coil & the wiring between these so you can eliminate components. I assume you have checked the plugs, caps, kill switch is on & all your connectors are clean & moisture free

out of my depth its a rd350lc b reg going to change some bits and see how i get on cdi first
