gday, i went to install my new sump plug i got for my bike, but it wont fit, its got 1.25mm pitch and has about 12mm of thread , but the plug on my bike that it came with has 1.5mm pitch and has about 20mm of thread, ? but whats more interesting is under where the shift cam assembly goes is a hole that looks like its meant for oil to go out off to lubricate the bits(gear selector shaft etc)under the right side cover, but with the longer sump plug that came with the bike it closes over that hole therefore stopping oil getting out there, any ideas would be appreciated, let me know if a picture would help, thanks again.

ok, heres some photos, the bike is an 81 350lc the plugs, long 1 is what came with it,short 1 is new side view, directly under largs hole,, small hole that looks like oil should come out of to lube shift shaft assembly if long plug is inserted then oil delivery is cut off, see the side hole in threaded sump plug hole i quess the question is should i get a plug with the 1.5 pitch but in the shorter 12mm length or doesnt it matter if the hole is blocked off, thanks

I remember the arrangement now. The hole is to allow the oil to drain from the R/H side, when changing the oil. If you think about it this is the only path and the oil would be stuck in the the R/H side if it was not for this.

I would use the longer (standard) plug. Main reason, less chance of stripping the threads.

thanks arrow, when i looked in my part book it described the plug as 14mm diametre and 10mm long, it gets confusing to say the least, this long plug is 20mm long, the new one i got is 12mm long with a different pitch,

I don't think the part number tells you the length as its not a standard fastner as such. I have an original sump plug here and the threads are 20mm long.
