I'm considering replacing the rear shock on my '81 LC, the frame and swinger are standard unmodified items. I picked up on someone swapping theirs out for an R6 shock but this type has a remote resevoir, does it fit without any modification?
What's the best option for me to replace the standard one without any making mods to the bike?
Cheers

R6 is a common mod for a ypvs but they have a rising rate the lc is a standard mono shock . i dont think it will work very well and you definatley would need to do some mods .

Ive got an SV650 one in mine
no frame or swingarm mode - all done to the shock - cant comment on how it works as have no before for reference, but it has tons more damping and adds a bit of ride- height too (perfect for the larger gentleman such as myself!)

i took a chance on this benelli tnt shock off ebay, got it for 50 notes and is the same length as an lc shock and is fully adjustable,it did'nt take much to fit it either. the sv shock is slightly longer so would jack the back end up a bit and makes the bike handle better.i hhave made a swinger from an f2 bottom part and lc top loop cause i'm fitting different wheels and have set it so it's jacked up slightly. heres the tnt shock.

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I'm not too keen on the sound of the sv shock as I'm a bit of a short arse and like a low seat.
The TNT shock looks sweet and being the same length as standard will better suit me. Just need the right one at the right price.
Cheers, Iain

Sorry to hijak your thread Iain, but i am also interested in substituting my rear shock, but i'm looking for one that is around two inches shorter than the standard LC one (i've just fitted forks from an aprillia rs125 which are 2 inches shorter and want to avoid an arse in the air situation). Any suggestions on a 2 inch shorter shock anyone?

Erm I went and bought a near new SV650 shocker Modded it to properly fit My LC's mounts. Rode it for a total of an hour. Then quickly removed it, because it scared the hell out of me.. Crap is the only thing I will say about it. The 30yr old OEM Yama shock simply works a Helluva lot better..period. There ..IS.. genuine reason SV650 owners discard these cheap/useless Chinese shocks almost immediately.
