Ok so as titled.... found my charging issue on my little LC My question is what would cause this? Reason I ask is this is the 2nd one my bikes killed. Above wont run on the bike my other stator coils look hot around the same coil thats burnt out in the above (ignition?). Is it possible that a very dead battery would cause them to overheat? Want to know why its doing this so when I get it repair its not just money wasted and it does it again. Any suggestions? Cheers

check your reg/rec unit plus your top coil you look to be getting a power feed back to your stator also check you cdi box. manual will tell wot readings should be good luck mate

I would say you have a short in the loom somewhere.

Cheers for the suggestions Ok well regulator / rectifier and cdi unit I can swap for some spares I've got and then throw another set of stator coils on... I was thinking regulator rectifier could be at fault to be honest. hope it doesnt do it again! I've checked all of the wiring and the loom hasnt been hacked about, it all looks clean and good by the eye.

i had a 10w import about 10 years ago that did the exact same thing, usualy at night leaving me a ride hime with no lights. i replaced a few stators,a cdi and a few re/rectifiers and like arrow just suggested it was my loom at fault. (hardly suprising as it looked like a butchered birds nest )so firstly i would check your loom especialy if its been cut on the stator wires.....

Thats the thing... it looks a good loom. Only bit that was cut was the stator wires from when I replaced them. I've looked all over the bike, could even be a faulty switch like the ignition I guess but if I change it and it goes again I'm just going to cry

You need to check the loom with a multimeter not just a visual check. Make sure you don't have continuity between 2 or more wires where your not 'sposed to and any wire to earth where its not 'sposed to.

Yeah, know what your saying... I'll be throwing the multi-meter on it... I hate electrical faults!! The only section that was spliced in was the stator section into loom that I did to bodge it together back when I was 18. I've got a feeling its the regulator / rectifier at fault to be honest but coudlnt check that with the stator blown.

Im with Arrow on this as well . i had the same thing on a real nice black and red 125lc special i built years ago . The wires keped getting hot and smoke would start coming up from behined the pannel. everything looked ok but inside the colored wire wrapping the copper wire had broke and was arking and shorting out . It ended up melting a bunch of wires together on a ride out .

Looks like I'll have to strip it all back and make 100% sure its ok, was looking at a set of stators on e-bay and there at £100 now so if I'm going to be spending that kinda money I dont want it to happen again.
