Ok so before i break anything anyone know the best way to get the lock out from the seat / helmet lock ? decided the units need respraying so dismantling them completely first

Should be fairly straight forward. Grab a digi camera first to snap it as you go. Remove the rear cover and latch spring assy, then I think the barrel assy is held in place by a spring loaded clip you need a small jewellers type screwdriver to hold the clip back to allow the barrel to unclip from the body.

Yeah when i took the backplate off and saw all those springs i started snappin pics lol, can't seem to see any tabs, this is how far i've got it .....

The square section to the right of your pic 4mmx4mm has sheared so your seat could be forced with or without key.
lift the ally section complete from where it sits and the brass tag lies beneith
place your key in 3/4 depth, release tab towards center and press thro towards key

Thanks tout and butchers for the info especially the pics , made everything so much easier, got it out now , it definitely looks like the plate that sits behind the lock is damaged, and i need to source a replacement.... but apart from that the lock seems in good condition apart from that , i wrapped the barrel up in clingfilm to stop all those pins trying to escape while i overhaul the metal bits lol they are off to the blastin booth at my old college come the new year to clean it all up
