I've been on the look out for a project rd 350 lc for 3 or 4 months, e-bay, gumtree and the rest but still nothing with matching numbers with not too much of a story behind it and not too much of a price.
I'm now considering building a hybrid and hoping to get as much information as possible before parting with too many beer tokens.
I still want to keep the lc frame, tank & general look of the bike, the questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me are- -does the ypvs engine fit into an lc frame without modification -what work is required to fit an rgv front end & would this be considered to be the best/most suitable. -which swinging arm would be considered to be the best/most suitable and what work is required to fit. I understand there is 1001 different problems encountered when building a bike like this but is there any other major considerations to think of.

You won't find an LC with YPVS engine and matching numbers! Also it defeats the object if you are looking for a matching number bike to make a hybrid? Only reason to have matching numbers is on a standard bike really and in my opinion too much fuss is made over it. By the way, there's a nice LC with YPVS engine for sale here: www.yamaha-rd.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9312

you would definatley be better of getting a bike with most of the work done rarther then starting something new. its cheeper in the long run. But if you do decide to do a build im sure you will get lots of help and advive hear .
The ypvs engin will fit in an lc frame with no nods at all but you will the compleat loom and everything to go on it .

Herp derp boys and girls.. You'll need to drill the thermostat as the LC radiator doesn't have a hose connector for the bypass hole from the YPVS head. You COULD add a hose connector on the radiator, but personally I just drilled two 2 mm holes in the thermostat and plugged the bypass flow hose connector on the YPVS head. So, instead of the bypass water going from a separate hose from head to radiator, it goes through the thermostat, directly up to the top coolant hose. Some people only drill one 2,5-ish mm hole in the thermostat, I drilled two smaller ones. I guess you gotta decide what seems most reasonable.

Yes you can , but there are reasons why you may not want to. The pump is in theory not positive displacement so it really needs something to work against, if you take the stat out the system becomes more open but the water may not flow any quicker. A thermostat is there to control the heat of the engine, running a 55 degree stat will keep it at optimum temp
I suffer with overheating on the YPVS/LC, so I actually run a thermostat with the middle missing, seems to work slightly better at keeping it cool on hot days, in the cold or winter the stat goes back in
