Thanks friends. ;D
This bike is in its original condition including the paint and decals, and its engine never touched upon. Have opened the Carbs for servicing though.
I inspected the Carbs - 1] does not have Air Screws for tuning. 2] coolant pipes run through the Carbs. 3] runs on 12.50 Pilots, 230 Mains. 4] Jet Needles are 5HN23. Needles are very thin..meaning they are a very rich set. Does anyone have these Jet Needles?
When started, she idles at 1100 RPM, on partial heating up, the RPM drops down to 900 and after reaching the running temp, RPM further drops to about 550-600.
Any one over there has some idea of how to tune her up?

I thank Scott Holmes for introducing me to Norbo and Norbo, for urging me to join in and post pictures of my bikes. Amongst the 7 bikes I have, I have uploaded pictures of my Yamaha R1Z...a twin two stroke 250cc bike with model code 3XC that was released in Japanese market only. I look forward to a very involved and useful interaction. Kindly opine. Looks in a good standard condition much better than my ''Yella Fella '' when I 1st got it

Shandyboy,
It is a Japanese-market-only bike that was produced by Yamaha from 1991 to 1993. So, cannot say for sure if the R1Z is available anywhere else other than Japan. I have seen one in Thailand few months ago and that is it.
I imported this one from Dubai in 2008, from a fellow enthusiast from GB!! He was on deputation to the Middle East and carried his favorite bike with him. I spotted it, requested for it, and surprisingly, he gave it to me.
I will keep my eyes open wide...if I spot one, I will surely inform you. I would be happy if my comrades own these!!

Correct the Yamaha R1-Z 250 3XC was only ever made for the Japanese market although I do find it strange and often wonder what as Yamahas thinking? The R1-Z was supposed to be a 1990 follow on from the Yamaha RD LC family with very similar ride position and 2 stroke performance? I do have a Jap bike mag somewhere stating just these facts? The R1-Z shares almost identical engine / carbs / electrics with bikes sold inside Japan and outside Japan as the Yamaha TDR 250 & Yamaha TZR 250 ( 2ma / 1kt ) with other chassis R1-Z parts easily traced to other Yamaha bikes? I do know of and often give / receive help from other R1-Z owners in India, Thailand , Japan, Germany, Greece, USA, England, Scotland, Wales this help is usually e mails sending pictures or part numbers etc but have been over to a few homes in England to get stuck in with spanners etc I think over the years there has been 7 different R1-Z bikes in my garden with pictures to prove somewhere Last year I enjoyed myself doing a part rest / tidy up on Johns R1-Z from the Reading direction.... My own ‘’ Yella Fella ‘’ did have a web site but its long gone and I have great difficulty getting on the photobucket account these days to view the pictures ( anyone else have photobucket problems ? ) There is another slow going R1-Z project sitting in the garage now alongside the’’ Yella Fella ‘’

Yes, I really do not understand why R1Z was made only for Jap market. This bike shares a lot of parts from the TZR 1 KT and other items from other bikes.
Fred, your restoration looks very good. How are you managing the parts specific to this model?
