Just going on from my thread about engine oil types really. Our local place sells Rock Oil stuff including Light Gear Oil. Has anyone used this and what do they think? Cheers.

Yes I use it, can't get it that easily myself, as a lot of dealers have gone to Silkolene as they have a nice display stand for all their products I used rock oil all the time when i raced LC's etc, never had a problem, but then again, the bikes were never in one piece long enough for it to make a difference.

Cheers for that LC Bott. With you having raced, that's good enough for me. Was going to use Silkolene like I used 20 years ago. But having a local supplier of Rock Oil, I will go for that.

I dont rate silkoline my self shops sell it becourse they get a free nice looking stand and ther is a good mark up and all so they have a very good distrubuter . but its old Black car and lorrey engine oul that they get in chemicaly brake down clean up and reconstitute in to there oils. No one races on it at the track the only good oil they do is the top of the like oils they do.
Personaly id use rock oil between the two.

Funny that ive used Silkolene for 20 yrs in all my MX/Enduro bikes done countless races and thousands of miles of greenlaning plus use comp-2 injector in ALL my road bikes NEVER EVER had a seized or blown up engine in any of my bikes (ive no connection to Silkolene by the way) Also Gerry Pell always advised using Silkolene in all the formula LC bikes back in the day,

My mate has just done his first year racing on a tzr250 with the ypm's. He did every race meet, every practice and only had one top end re fresh and it was run on silkolene all year with no problems. Infact I think most of the paddock ran silkolene.

This is a problem with Rock oil. They are based in Warrington which is really close to you. Find a bike shop that does mail order or E-Bay would be the best bet I think.

Who's that then? Actually with the TZR's I think you'll find it's a split between the Old School A747, Rock, Motul and in our case the XR77 Castrol. I can think of only one team that runs the Silkolene. I wouldn't use it myself, not that impressed with the latest incarnation of their 'pro' oil. Castrol have stopped making the XR77, so we're looking at alternatives, won't be Silkolene though Their gearbox light oil is good enough, so is the rock, or putoline, not much between them to be honest.

I thought fish ran silkolene?

Ah, he went very well MrT, Rookie Champion and all that. Yep Triple X have a deal with Silkolene, I've tried it but I wasn't happy with the results, just didn't seem to burn as well in the LC. Everybody has their favorites, you just have to find what works for you I gues, like you've pointed out, nothing wrong with the way Fish's bike goes
