I am about to start polishing my foot peg hangers. I am going to flat the casting marks first but do i need to flat the front faces as well to cut through any factory lacquer (I am guessing there is some).

Mine weren't too bad, used varies grades of wet & dry on the heavy marks then popped them in the blasting cabinet, then a 1/2 hour each on the bench polisher. You will have to remove any lacquer prior to polishing, a fine file should be fine on the flat surfaces, but use some wet & dry / wire wool also after wards to give you a better finish, then start the polishing process - best of luck - its well worth it after all that hard work.
