So it appears my little LC has developed a fault.... It empties the battery of all its charge fairly quickly when lights are used (stays charged without the lights). So... I've changed the battery for a new one and the regulator rectifier for another one, fault still there I'll throw the multi-meter on it this weekend and check the stator and then move onto checking the reg/rectifier to see if thats still at fault. I can also remember that 7/8 years ago just before I put her away one of the stator coils burnt out (ignition side) so replaced that with a spare I had, not sure if thats related to the charge problem I've got now?? Any other suggestions other than bad connections / earths ect.? anything else common with the mk1? Cheers

Well I know where the fault is now... the stators have 3 white wires out and none are producing any charge at all when the engine is running 0 volts. Need to get my flywheel off and check see if I can fix and if not then its new stator coils I'm after but need to check it out first.

If it is like the bigger LCs you check the resistance across the white wires i.e white to white x 3. Not sure of the ohms figure but if anyone has a manual it will be in there. Tone.

Cheers fo the info, well the manual said disconnect the plug from engine case (3 white wires) and set the multi-meter to 20volt setting and connect to either 2 of the white wires from the stator end, kick her up but dont rev and should show a range of volts being produced (cant remember how much off hand), I had 0 volts so means there is a break somewhere.
I'm yet to take off the flywheel, found my extractor but got to get to it as of yet... Just bought a rare set of throttle boddies for my car so a little busy playing with girlfriend no. 2 (my LC was and always will be my first love though;))

I've got a spare stator coil but unfortunatly one of the ignition coils on the plate burnt out for some reason so its non running using that... at worse I could get one sent to be repaired if I cant myself but I'm one that usually refuses to let other people do the work- I've re-built my car's head - new valve stem seals, re-ported, polished, enlarged ports a total of 3 times now on 3 different heads! I've put high lift cams in welded new arches on, filled about every panel, total re-sprayed but I have never ever let anybody else touch it

Stator coil rewinding/repair is a job for specialists only I'm afraid mate :/ I had same issue with mine not charging, luckily turned out to be the reg/rec, put a new one on and been fine ever since. Few week back mine stopped producing a spark, thought I would have to send stator to be refurbished but the it came back a few weeks later on its own, how weird is that? lol Anyways, West Country Windings are your best bet mate, they'll make it like new, post the stator down to them, let them work their magic and then you'll be all systems go I think I would inquire as to whether it is more expensive to repair the stator with charging issue or the one with sparking issue first Good luck with it mate! I hear what you're saying... but I'm the one that snipped the old wires and just twisted them together and put a little tape on them if I remember rightly when I fitted this stator plate (I was only young then, wouldnt do that now!!!) so I hope its something simple, probably isnt though with my luck lol money isnt an issue but I like to do stuff myself more than anything.... LOVE getting my hands dirty!
