Have just rebuild engine after crank seal problem all seems ok now Question is my stator plate has been slotted so you can adjust the static timing But I don't know where it should be as standard I have a strobe timing light with a dial on the back of it the manual says timing should be 17 degrees bftdc Ypvs engine by the way My question is do I check timing with the dial on 0 or set it at 17 degrees and check it then ? Please help as don't want to ride bike and end up melting pistons !!!!!

If you look at the rotor you will see two lines nearly side by side. When you start the bike and point the strobe at the rotor the crankcase mark should be in the middle of the two lines on the rotor. If you rev it up you should see it advance up to 3500rpm then if you rev it higher it should start to retard back down. I only have a basic strobe with no adjustable advance on it but I think you should have it on the 0 setting to check the above setting. Tony
