Just got these puppies back from having the chrome stripped at Quality Chrome in Hull (top blokes by the way and big shout out to them) and the diagnosis isn't good. Corrosion and pitting abound (they are 30yrs old after all) and QC advice was to do the humane thing and not throw too much money at them when a new set of Allspeeds would be comparable to the work required. I've no problem doing the welding but was wondering if powder coating is suitable for exhausts??? Really want to use these if I can, but chrome just not viable. Attachments:

They don't look too bad, just need to braze up the pinholes, they might disintegrate with welding.
You can get heat resistant powder coating, the normal stuff won't survive the heat at the front end.
Did do the rear 2/3 in powdercoat and did the fronts with barbecue paint and seemed fine.
Other option is stove enameling, will fill imperfections like the powdercoat does but is brittle so not good if you dink it as it will flake off and will make future repairs impossible.
I'd go for the p/c rear and barbecue fronts as it will be cheapest. Either that or Gibson's will do you a new set in chrome for about£400.

Cheers gents.
Lovin' the look of those Allspeeds and had a quick look on Camcoat website... I think that's the sound of my wallet I can hear quivering in the next room!

What is the cost of the Camcoat these days? I remember asking years ago and it wasn't cheap.
I do have a local powder coaters who has a coating now he says will do exhausts(will cope with 750 deg plus). Next time I'm over there I will give him an exhaust so we can see what it is like.

Would be interested to hear what kind of price your local man could coat a pair of pipes for. I'm going to repair these microns up (advantage of having a couple of TIG welders working for me) ... so just need to neaten them up. When I was at the chromers yesterday they were a great bunch of chaps and they were doing their very best to politely tell me that they would take a huge amount of work to salvage - it was rather like a vet trying to explain to someone that it would be best if their dog was put down - quite comical thinking about it now. I'm just used to working with guys who would go no further than to say "they're f***ed mate". Also, Would appreciate if you could PM me with cost and turnaround for a pair of retro short can Allspeeds, chromed.
