i was wondering if anyone out there when fitting a head gasket use a sealent as well , i must add i didnt buy a gen yam gasket, but though i would take a punt and try a scally, also does using neat antifrezze as coolant have any advantages , i ask this as i lived abroad in hot climbs and i know that the californians use neat as they say its a more effective coolant and obviously less corrosive.

You must use sealant with non-gen gaskets and do not torque down to more than 19 ft-lbs. If you don't use sealant, you'll get leaks. I went down that route and ended up getting a gen gasket. Don't ask me how much it cost me - I'm too embarassed!

If you don,t use sealant it will almost definitely leak and a little bit of sealant is not going to do any harm, you can even afford to torqre it up to 20 21
