To Grease or not to grease When i rebuilt my engine the Haynes book of lies said to lube the valves,bushes AND O rings with Molybdinum Disulphide (or however its spelt grease. I did this and not long after when giving the bike a good thrashing it would spray black crap on the inside of the right hand mid fairing panel Im due to change my yam valves with a lovely set of the billet alloy ones with the new bushes but im wondering........SHOULD i cover the O rings with the grease or not what do you guys do I just think the o rings would seal better without being covered in grease and after the expense of gaskets and parts i dont wanna be taking it all apart again any time soon Cheers

I put a smear of copper slip on my rings they should be self lubing with all the unburnt oil that gets spat out the engine.

I used the stuff mentioned in the Haynes manual on my billeted alloy valves. I had to buy it from a gun shop.
I've been running them 12 months now with no probs.

I fitted a set of Steve's shiney billet PV's to my F2 and used 2 stroke, I've read other threads where people have argued that anything put on there is only gonna get fried anyway, so why introduce 'another' substance into the mix? as nikfubar has already said, that end of things is self lubricating - ;D

thanks guys. my main concern is lubing the actual o rings.Surely that would stop them sealing as well than if they were fitted dry

When I rebuilt my LC2 I went by the Genuine Yamaha workshop manual and applied molybdenum grease to the powervalve bush, the bush O ring, the outer edge of the castle seals but Not the inner diameter where they push onto the powervalves. I did mine by just removing the offside cylinder.

still have to remove the head be easier on a workbench and i can sit and look at the engine if i get bored m8 ;D

DO take everything apart and clean it spotlessly. Shiny valves or not bits of crystalised carbon Will chew the hell out of them . Also check the fit of the Bespoke valves. There are 2 sizes and shipping mistakes can happen. As the others have said. I didn't grease mine either. Baked grease can be ugly stuff. Regardless, if like me and prolly everyone else, you will be disassembling all this again sooner than you now think.. It's the nature of these Beasties :-) Do use thick enough retaining 'half moons' the OEM ones are Lame. These ..Must.. prevent the bushes from rotating.. Not.. just prevent them from falling out. It's important to get this 'right' I've also found that a wee bit of Orange Sillycone on the outer edges of the outer bushes keeps the Ex Goo inside
