So i know its been a while since i removed seals from a pair of normal forks and all the ones when i did my mechanics course had been out so many times they fell out in a strong breeze but i can't for the life of me get the seals out of these LC forks for the life of me..... Any one got any tips ? i tried removing the clip before i pulled the stanchions out in the hope the seals would hitch a ride on them but no, they r stuck fast

Yep that was my first solution , placing a rag between the screwdriver and the leg to protect it

Yeah it looks like the bush on the lc is in the leg rather than fitted around the stanchion, i'm not sure i have anything thin enough to get up the screw hole and long enough to get to the seal.... , its worth bearing in mind tho thanks headcoats

Could try putting the end of the stanchion in hot water to expand it and lever seal out.

when i did mine, you would swear they were not meant to come out, being gentle got me no where, i ended up using a small screw driver and hammered it in till it bent the metal outer ring on the seal, but it did mark where the new seal had to fit in, i ended up using my dremil and smoothed it out, hasnt leaked yet, you could try getting a nail and rounding off the point and hitting that in,once the metal ring on the seal is bent, they come out easy, but still be careful,, as i said this what i did and it worked, might not be everyones cup of tea though.

i turned my fork upside down then poured boiling water around the outer fork leg area wher the seal sits

thanks mellow, hopefully i wont need to do it again, my first attempt was a disaster, broke 2 screw drivers trying to pry out, then finally hammered one in and got it out, put in new seal and it got caught up on a small sharp bit and ruined seal, waited a couple of weeks for new seals ,then got it out again with the hammering screw driver in method ,deburred and sanded smooth and put in new seal, so far it hasnt leaked and i have rolled it down our little hill testing brakes ect, with no motor in it, neighbours must think im strange, at least i didnt make revving noises will i did it.lol

When I did the 125 forks I had to cut the bloody seals with a dremel. Took me ages but eventually they came out. PS: If your new seals has a metal outer surface, (sometimes they have rubber here just like the inside of the seals) then you should really use some sealant between the seal and fork leg so that the oil doesn't sneak out past the outside of the seal (hope that makes any sense lol). Just make sure the sealant can withstand the fork oil you're gonna use.

I did eventually get them out, went and annoyed my old tutors to use all their tools in the work shop, a vice a pry bar and a chisel were used but they eventually came out with very little damage so i just have to mirror polish them now and then start rebuilding them while the wheels and yokes are off to the powdercoater
