ok so i had a bit of fun today. rd125lc mk2 with allspeed fitted mbx125 with micron fitted ar125 with micron fitted did a 15 min road test on all three to compare acceleration ,top speed, riding position, handling, braking and fun factor. i enjoyed myself and after reading all the magazines over the 80's and 90's found surprising results. none of the bikes are ported but they have been up jetted and the mbx has a ram filter.all on 0.5 oversized pistons apart from rd which is 1.0.so a few little differences but not to much posted some pics. hi corf, lol,im sure it would be a close thing but in my era the tzr was not on the road so didn't get in to my road test.guess i should get a rg125 to compare but i don't fancy all that fairing to paint lol. i had an ar80 back in the day but my mates rd80lc used to whip me but didn't see any mbx80's back then only 50's and i think they were the slowest 50's around. cheers rich

I had a MBX125 and 2 MBX80's back in the day not keepers just ones i did up and sold but i did do 1 of the 80;s up for my girlfriend of the time . , But the seat is wide and she felt better on a TZR125 as the seat is so narrow.

When i first got a bike, there were loads of us and was named the 50 mob lol, even tho some had 80cc bikes,i had a Suzuki TS ER 50,and just some bikes i remember was a HONDA MT5,HONDA MTX80,SUZUKI TSX 50,my fav at the time was a kid who had a HONDA MBX80 in black it looked the best at the time, mind you we all messed with them for speed. GOOD OLD DAYS,you wont see many 16-17 year old lads these days riding all over in a large groups. I think it all computers .

think my area of england was the same as your mate. there was over 50 50cc and 80cc bikes parked in the school(college) car park in 1986 to 1987. most popular where the ar50's,in green, black, white and red.mbx's,rd50 and rd80's,rd80lc's,dt50's,mtx50's,mb5's,ts50's,ap50's ,fsie's, and the odd rd125lc,ar125 and mbx125. i wish i had taken pics of them all parked up lol we all used to chase the school buses home wheeling to the girls on the back thinking we looked cool with the loudest possible exhaust fitted, magic moments.rain, snow, ice or thunder storms i would be out on the streets with my scrarf tied round my face to keep my nose and mouth warm.everyone had there individual scarf so you could be recognise who was who. just found a old pic of my ar50 with a nicked 80 engine in it lol great memories

The best bit about voting yesterday was then going to the local chippy. I noticed a couple of young lads, one on a Dt 50 and one on an Aprilia rs 125. It's rare, yet the 2 stroke L-plate band boys are still out there. Back in the 80s the RD and RG were popular- yet the MBX and NS, in my opinion and experience, had the edge. It was all down to what you could afford and what you liked. To me... I had no regrets with an RD mk11
