Can anyone teach me on how to mod my gear selector to be smooth. My 82 RD350LC is getting on my nerve when it come to get it nutral (free) gear. Do I need to change the bearing on the selector itself?

You can cut the shift star down, that will make shifting a tad easier and the risk of jumping past N is smaller (though not entirely gone). I had a modded shift star in my LC engine but honestly I didn't feel alot of difference. Now I have a stock shift star again and I can't tell any difference either. Maybe I'm just not good at feeling it lol? Anyway, I ground my star down so it looked like this: Edit: On 2nd thought though, now when I actually think about it, I did have some problems with a gear lever that got stuck as you shifted, or a "crunchy" feeling of the shiftings from time to time when I had the stock shift star. I never experienced any of these problems when I had my modded shift star. Perhaps the tension of the detent arm when having a stock shift star makes the shifts a bit harsch?

Hey! been there.. done that! Works 'as advertised' too. Make up a wee jig just a pivot, so you can spin the star gizmo against the grinding wheel consistently, to knock off the sharp points evenly.. then carefully round everything smoothly. I made the 'points' quite a bit lower/rounder than those in the photo above. I used a later model Yama Star as example, thinking that they knew best how big to make 'em.. DON'T touch the Notched N detent lobe though. Bike now shifts Better (cleaner/faster) than Son 's new 600rr which has undercut dogs oem.. His claim ..not mine by the way. Also found that I had a harder and harder time finding N as the engine unit warmed up.. soon it was impossible to find N in traffic.. Not good! Dumped the Yamalube 10/40 trans oil and refilled with GL4 75/85 Gear oil (gl4 is clutch safe) Trans worked beter than it ever had before N was easy (relatively) to find regardless of engine temp..Neutral Problem disappeared entirely. Can only hope yours works as well.. try it?
