Hi. I've got a 1984 RZ250RR ( grey import RD250LC YPVS fully faired ) and I am having trouble locating some spares, specifically a throttle cable assembly ic. oil pump cable. I'll have to do a top-end rebuild at least ( low compression so it won't start ) so anyone any ideas where I can buy the engine bits from ? Cheers. Hi, read on the other forum that it has the push/pull throttle cable on it. I thought it was only the usa ones that had those carbs, the parts list I've seen shows the normal type of carbs so not sure if they are original. If you go to www.rd350lc.net and go to the download section you can get a parts list for the rz250. Personally I'd try and find a set of the normal carbs as they will use the standard cable. There have been a few broken so parts should be available. See what norbo says first and take it from there. Steve

I think you have a single bar on your carbs with 1 cable pulling both up at the same time . Not all RZ250 have thiss et up so have a look at your carbs and see if you have a big bar conecting both at the top .

Thanks for the info so far. My RZ has linked carbs - ie, one operating arm avtivates both carburettors. When I purchased the bike, only one throttle cable was fitted, acting as a "pull" cable and springs on the operating arm closed the carbs when the throttle was shut. There is a cable link to the oil-pump of course, although when I removed the pump cover I found this cable was broken so no oil had been getting to the engine during the 35 mile ride home after buying it. How it didn't seize I'll never know, as I didn't put any pre-mix in the tank. Compression is now low - 80psi RH side and 60psi LH side - so a rebuild and rebore looks neccessary. However, the twist grip has two holes - one for a "pull" cable and one for a "push" cable. The operating arm on the carbs has two holes also - one hole for the "pull" cable nipple and one hole for the "push" cable nipple. I could understand someone fitting the " wrong" carbs, but why a "wrong" twistgrip ? Either way, originality would be nice, but any suitable cable set-up will do, it's just none of the numerous suppliers I have contacted seem to have a clue what should be fitted.

The USA models had this carb setup so you should find the USA cables work for your needs, else swap for some UK spec carbs and run the UK cable... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I dont feel that you need a push cable on this bike, the two springs should do the job fine. I think its a safety overkill thing really... same as on the FCR41 I had. the push part was a nightmare and only there in case the carb stuck open, most unlikely with a decent spring in it...

Thanks for the help you guys - fantastic response ! Special thanks to midlifecrisisrd - those parts look EXACTLY like the ones I need. Funny thing is, I've already contacted the old parts shop in Singapore, and he said he couldn't help me !! Maybe because I stipulated RZ250 and these parts are for an RZ350. Anyway, thanks again.
