if you get a coil thats for a M6 bolt then i think it will be fine if you put it in a m8 holl as they have about a 1mm walll . but id ask the bloke selling it as he will be the one who will know .

The drill size will be stated on the helicoil tap. All the info you'll ever need is here: www.helicoil.in/pdf/HeliCoil%20Catalogue.pdfWorth noting too, is that helicoil minimum length is 1D (M6 would be 6mm long) so a 5mm deep hole would be too shallow.

I would have thought the boss would have been made from stainless or something stronger because of the splines If I had recently spend nearly a ton on a specialised machined part & it failed I would be doing everything possible to have the part replaced by the manufacturer, surely it is still under warranty Just my 2p worth OEB

yes i feel the same oeb but as i said hes looking £75+post for the boss alone!!!nik theres very little options i cant drill the hole any deeper or it will be thru the other side and if i do this the kickstart will hit.so i cant even bodge it and put a bolt right thru it..............have orderd a helicoil kit but i doubt ts gunna work as theres so little thread to work with but ive gotta try summit, failing that i'l have to see about a different boss like the original where its a bit more robust of a unit.

Got one of these myself and musyt only grip by 3 or 4 mm so easily overtightened and stripped.
Not sure how to sort it but nothing is going to be easy as bolt goes in through bottom into blind end that can't really be drilled any deeper.
The tap for the helicoil will not thread it to the bottom so insert won't go in.

yep thought of that too about the tap!is there any other boss that would fit steve do u know?if all else fails i'l have to weld up the hole maybe and redrill n tap/get a new boss made up but i know its gunna be expensive........even if i was to shell out for a new one the same cud easily happen,£75 is just taking the piss when the whole thing cost £100
