I got a Mk2/3 clutch cover sorted, paint is not mint as you can see, but overall it looks pretty OK if you're not anal about it. I just freshened the thing up where it was needed - a bit of aluminum polish and a bit of paint on the face of the cover and it was fit for fight again. I put a new waterpump seal on (not an el cheapo brand either, it has a Ars seal and those seem to last very long) and a very mint impeller. I also put a mint plastic cog/gear inside. You know, the little plastic gear that always end up sloppy as hell! Also it has a new kickstarter shaft seal. Not that those ever wear too much though, but hey, it's new nonetheless! ;D Please don't comment the footrest hangers. I know they need a bit of polish but I just can't be arsed now. I'll deal with them later.

Naah standard covers are all black. The reason I polished the edge was because I didn't want a too visible colour shift between the original paint and the new paint around the Yamaha logo.

Just to let you know, the project ain't dead, it's just waiting for wheels! We're hopefully gonna pick up wheels next weekend (unless the seller is too busy that is) so that should at least get her rolling and I can fit the front muddy, brake caliper, chain etc. I don't know if the tires on the wheels we're gonna buy are OK or not, but if they hold the air and not look too bad then new tires can wait, winter will come soon anyway so whatever. We're not exactly moto GP riders either so the tire conditions ain't that important. As long as they're not cracked, dried the f**k up, worn down etc then they should be allright to fizz around on for a while. We still need a few parts for the bike but it's not much. Just a left hand switch lump, (why do the left ones always pop??) a new battery, gearbox oil, brake fluid, fill up the cooling system and....... well that's about it! I will make a video of the first start so keep an eye of any updates in the thread. Hopefully it will start easily and.... hopefully it won't blow up within 5 min's lol. I won't start the bike any day near though, still need the battery etc as I don't want to fry the reg/rec unit.

We picked up the wheels (it was a 230 mile trip back/forth to get them!) and I have mounted the front wheel, but the rear needs Loctite on one of the wheel bearings. The front wheel doesn't look very good as I didn't even wash it lol. I regret not doing it tbh, it really makes the bike look skankier then it is. Oh well, I'll get both wheels polished/painted next year or so, and I'll probably be looking for a new front tire by then aswell. Right now I just want to get the thing running. Will probably get a pic up later. EDIT:

Sprocket carrier was a little better on the "new" rim. Old rim (obviously). New to me rim. Gotta fill those paint chips lol..

This brake shield we got along with the wheels was in much better condition then the old one, so I decided to go through the power agonizing process of sandblasting and painting it. It turned out great though. I know it isn't the original, chromed pulley arm on it, the old one was crap and so was the "new" one. Maybe one day I'll get hold of a real RD brake arm lol..

Allright so I got the sloppy wheel bearing loctited in the rim, but I need to buy another bearing on the other side as the one I have is only shielded with sheet metal, it should be rubber sealed because of the brake dust inside the rim. Anyway, I painted the chain tensioners. ;D I would have wanted them in the original finish but that'll have to wait.

I made myself a new wheel spacer. Didn't like the old one as it was 22 mm all the way and quite harsch for the chain tensioner, so I took an old wheel spacer with a thicker edge and cut it down to the right specs. This will make the life for the chain tensioner a whole lot less stressful. Original spacer to the left, custom spacer to the right:

Allright so I got the rear wheel on and I thought, why not put the plastics etc on and take a few pics? It's not done, still have some stuff to sort out but at least it looks done! ;D Before: After: I know, the after-picture suck ass, funnily enough that camera takes far sharper pics then the old one, BUT only on macro. I'm having big trouble getting good pics from a further distance. Anyway, it may not look like there is alot of difference between the before and after pic, but I assure you the bike was a pile of JUNK when we got it, you won't believe how skanky parts of it was. I wish I took a picture of the front brake, you'd probably puke if you saw it. Now it is a descent bike with a gazillion of changed/new parts. It may not be the best looking RD in the world and, as mentioned, it still has a few odds and sods to sort out, but I didn't aim for a show bike in the first place tbh, I wanted it to work properly and look allright. I'm satisfied with what I have done.

my fave set up colour scheme....have a nos bike to build in same scheem....top job billy. Thank's mate, doin my best lol. Well actually, I/we COULD have spent more money and done a better job, but this bike will probably be used quite a bit so it's not hugely important. I also think this colour scheme is nice, it may be my favorite. I like the blue ones aswell but the white ones with blue decals looks more "mature" imo. Now I have to start looking for a new front tire btw. I thought it was OK as I did a half-arsed inspection at first, but yesterday I noticed there were cracks in it that I didn't see before. Bugger! Oh well, I could polish that front rim up while I have the tire off, maybe painting it aswell.

Soon it'll have another front wheel on. We bought another LC (a red one) and it has a fresh front tire and rim. There's nothing wrong with the rim on the white RD (except that it needs polishing and maybe paint) so I'll just put it aside and probably get a new tire for it in the future when the red RD needs it. The red one is a far better bike to build on as it almost havn't been tampered with AT ALL. It doesn't LOOK fresh, but rest assure, it is a mint bike. It freaking has a 56 m bore with the original honing marks visible throughout almost the entire barrel and a fresh orginal piston. That says quite alot about the engine condition. It's not just the engine, you see, the stuff on this bike has never been apart, only the rear wheel and l/h engine cover, probably for sprocket/chain and brake pads replacement. It has Vesrah pads on the rear which are worn the f**k down lol. Other then that it is untouched.

Here is the "new" rim with the tire. Now I actually feel safe while driving it, the old tire was freaking about to split in half lol. ;D I also took the disc on the new wheel as that was better.

belly pan..... nice vid billy. ;D I know mate, I know. It wouldn't be a problem if I still had the lugs on the frame, but they were f***ed up badly so I just cut the remains off. I regret I didn't weld new lugs on tbh, would have looked much better with the belly pan on. I might be able to attach the belly pan with stripes and some rubber spacers between the frame and belly pan though.

THESE should help billy...just add a tang to the pan.... Blimey, good idea! Very simple repair and not too ugly, I'll do that asap.

To complete this thread some more, I'm adding two videos of the bugger running. I've had these vids for a few weeks or so now but never thought about putting them in this thread until now lol. This vid is pretty boring from 0:25 to 1:05 so you can jump past that part.

;D what silver do you use for the swinger mate ? I used Motip silver. It probably doesn't match the original colour very well though but personally I don't care. As long as it looks normal I'm happy. IT looks great mate nice job on the swingarm Thank you!

lookin good billy, good to see a job done to a buget and not just throwing zillions at it Thank's. Aye, well eventually you come to a point where you want to ride the bugger, not just throw cash at it lol. ;D The next RD (in the pic below) will however be more mint I think, that's gonna be a looooong term project though and more serious paint on the frame. I'll probably use the same paint I used on the white RD in this thread, but this time I'll use a spray gun to apply the slime to the frame. I'll ask how much they want for sandblasting and powdercoating the frame before though, it may turn out cheaper as I suspect the electrical bill for sandblasting an entire frame at home will turn out quite expensive lol, so I havn't decided yet. Anyway, the red RD doesn't look very good, especially not since it's covered in 10 year old dust on the pic, but it's a great little bike. Sure, it has some minor problems but they're just that, minor. The engine is rediculously fresh, it's on stock size bore and you can still see the original honing marks throughout almost the entire barrel! Everything in the engine is in really good nick. I'm the first guy that splits the cases too btw. Bugger has never been apart before. I'm splitting the cases to replace the main bearings and seals and to know the condition of the tranny etc. Things look really good in there so this engine will be really sweet.

doing a top job on that billy!!! Thank's mate! The bike is already "broken" btw. The engine started knocking more and more and eventually I couldn't ignore the sound and realised something was wrong. Bugger! I think the big end bearing might be popping into shreds soon. Obviously I ain't riding the bike anymore, I'll just leave it alone for a while now and take a look on the engine in the spring when I can be arsed to to f**k all with bike related stuff lol. It's too damn cold and uncomfortable this time a year when you don't have a warm garage.
