Right so this is my dads MK1 I'm trying to get in a reasonable shape. It's a budget build so no fancy stuff really. Just a strip and rebuild, clean stuff up etc.
The frame will be rattle can painted for now, maybe it'll see another strip down in the future and get sandblasted and painted with 2K paint. (powdercoating is kinda unusual here and, well, 2K paint is just as good imo) I'll just get all the rust off, sandblast the stuff I can't reach and that'll have to do it for a few years. ;D
Day 1:
Omg, headache..
Cracked light button thingy.
Rim is terrible, will get another one.
This is a tad cracked on the edge but it'll work allright.
Pipe had some loose parts in it, I cut it open and managed to pull out all kinds of bullshit parts from it. I'll probably have to look at the jetting with this pipe as it is now more like an expansion chamber rather then a big ass silencer.
Barrel has a fresh bore (.50) and a new piston. Threads were M8 on the inlet and the previous moron owner even pulled the M8 threads!
A proper job would be to weld it up and make new holes, but I just put longer bolts and nuts behind. Well wtf, it works. ;D
Blargh, not the funniest job to do. I won't bug around with polish, I'll get them clear coated after I sandblasted and sanded the flat surfaces.
This shock pin was rusted the f**k hard in the bottom shock hole. I eventually had to cut a groove in the swinger, bend the mount to the side and tweak the shock out, then bend the shock mount back and weld it up. At the end of the day, it's allright. I managed to get the pin out of the shock too but the shock is now replaced with one in much better condition.
This thing needs repair but I have another one that I might use. Not sure yet.
A bit of rust eh.. Turned out fine fter sandblasting and paint though.
Found some 350 YPVS footpegs that fitted the 125 pin mount.
This gearbox is in VERY good condition. The original one was quite tarty and a gear was missing a few teeth.
Some engine building. The Hylomar was apparantly good for joining cases.
Some sandblasting:
I sanded the swinger, turned out pretty allright after all. The paint
on the pic is primer (I chose that because it's very tough) and will be sanded smooth and then painted with silver and clear coat.
The frame is a b*****d but once the sun comes out I'll be able to start working on it for real. I'll sandblast the stuff you can't reach.
These parts I painted with a brush, the paint is very tough and I wanted the yokes etc to be able to withstand wires etc better.
(Yes, the rinse inside the yoke was cut away lol..)
Handlebar turned out awesome, it's impossible to see that it was painted with a brush so Im well pleased with the result.
Took care of the excess paint on the disc:
Caliper turned out great too. I know it shouldn't be gloss but who cares lol?
Top yoke (mounted on a DT 50 bottom but will obviously not be used lol).
This was pretty tarty so needed some paint:
Waterpump cover painted, this was more of a test to see how the paint looked, and it turned out allright. The clutch cover will be painted too some day (satin black as the barrel) but I'm not sure I can be arsed atm.
Painted the headlight bracket.
That's it for now boys! I'll update whenever I do something worth showing. Hope you enjoyed it.
