Help! Just got the bike over 350 miles running in up to 8,000 and decided to give it a blast. Was going like the clappers up to 9,000 then whamo engine died so clutched in quick in case it had siezed and lost speed into the side of the road. Everything was maga hot but needle was not showing overheated though there was a faint burning smell. Tried the kick starter and it moved Could get bog all out of it so called the AA. After waiting 10 mins tried again and nothing. Didnt get any electrics at first then tried again and all ok. Left it a bit, tried again and bugger me it started. I cancelled the AA and rode home alike an OAP keeping it under 5,000. I'm not sure what happened. Could it have nipped up or what. Almost scared to start it again in case i've broken it

Dont think so its a brand new loom! If it has nipped up then why did it run again and does that mean another rebore before i can use it again

Yea I would take pipes off and look at pistons with a torch check rings and look at bores for obvious signs of damage and if you cant see any just run it and build up carefully. Years ago I had that happen on an x7(couldnt afford an rd in those days) on motorway I pulled over and same as you but I just ran it again and never had another problem with it. I am glad your not doing your Nan !

If it has nipped up then why did it run again and does that mean another rebore before i can use it again i bought a new loom from yuni parts off ebay, had to send it back as it had an intermitant fault on the auxiluary circuit, so i wouldn't rule that out just yet check my build out, ebay crock

I had a similar problem many years back. Going along fine and then suddenly the bike would die leaving me stranded by the side of the road, but after leaving it for about 15min it would start up and run fine again. I eventually traced it to the insulation on the alternator which was breaking down when hot. Got my mate to rewind the affending winding and all was fine after that. It was a right b*tch to trace that problem I can tell you.
