Hope someone can help. Trying to sort my loom out. 31k loom in a 4lo frame. Got most done (lights and neutral light) but cant get a spark. Done the standard resistance tests:
Charge coil resistance High Speed 5.6 Low Speed 243
Pickup coil resistance 14.4
Primary coil resistance 0.8 (but my tester shows .4 just when probes are touched together so hope this is near enough)
Secondary coil resistance 3.69k
Am I missing something? Is there something else I need to check?
Also in service book it says minimum spark gap to be 6mm. Seems bit big to me.
Also again it says in the same booklet to somehow connect a battery up to an Electro Tester to check spark. Is this some sort of special tester?
TIA.

Hi Drew1967, Looks like you're covered most of the tests that you can do on the coils etc. Maybe worth checking out the engine "kill" switch - could be badly corroded ?. Its worth checking all ignition wiring and connectors - could be something simple like a broken wire or poor connection. If everything checks out fine, then looking like the CDI unit mate. Some one may have a spare you could try, would save you forking out the cash first and it not being the fault. Good luck with the fault finding - these bikes can drive you mad .

Cheers Paulo. Checked the kill switch was ok but shorted the connector out just to make sure. May have to find a replacement CDI then.

Is there a way of checking the CDI? What does minimum spark gap to be 6mm mean?

Does coil have to be earthed? Doesn't show it on wiring diagram. There was an earth cable around that area though. Gonna try it. Can I reserve the coil if needed Steve?

In the Genuine manual it show the electro tester connected between the plug cap and top of plug as shown on page 7-7 here www.rd350lc.net/WM31K-7.pdfI think the tester has adjustable "points" so you can see what gap the spark can jump before misfiring but as you say 6mm does seem rather big considering the plug gaps are 0.7mm - 0.8mm. Nice one Tone. That clears that up. I thought the "electro tester" was just a normal volt meter but obviously a bit of other kit. Also clears up my other question about connecting battery straight to it as shown on page 7-11.

As midlifecrisisrd says, coil on the LC2 is earthed to the frame with the fixing bolt.
