I have one standard pipes on my RD250LC. One is a thin flanged pipe the other a thick flanged pipe (by flange I mean the collar that floats with the two holes in for the studs to pass through). So does the 250 and 350 have different pipes. Also does the collar thickness indicate anything. and what is the gasket requirements for each as I had problems with one of them and had to use to of the soft type on top of each other to make a seal. Whats the story with these then ?

The pipes with the thin flanges were fitted to the very first LCs but were replaced with the thicker flange type under warranty after problems with the downpipes cracking near the flange. The thicker flange pipes were fitted from the factory on later bikes along with tie bars under the engine to stop excessive movement of the motor. And as you say there was also different pipes fot the 250 and 350. www.rd350lc.net/pageEXHAUST.htmwww.rd350lc.net/Pot4L0-8081.JPGwww.rd350lc.net/TieRod4L0.jpg

Great ..... so how are the 250 and 350 pipes different is it internal or external and does the difference have an effect on the performance of the engine particularly as I might have one of each and is the mk 1 pipe liable to break even though the tie rods are fitted

I was just going to post a similar question, so... was the recall on the original bikes, only to fit different exhausts??
So it was the later models that had the tie bars fitted, and hence brackets welded to the frame??? and the casings recast/machined to accept the threaded tie bar bolt.

Yes the original warranty work was only to fit the modified pipes to the early bikes. It was only on the later bikes that the tie bars were fitted at the factory to restrict the rocking of the engine which was causing the pipes to break.
