Not sure which Forum section to put this in so i thought probably best here. As some of you know i bought a power valve earlier this year and have started the long process of restoration so is currently resting in a myriad of boxes.
When i first picked the bike up it was taxed until November. I have just seen an advert on tv stating that i must now Sorn it because i haven't insured it and if i don't i will be fined!
I am thinking the idiots in charge of this country are targeting Tax/insurance dodgers, don't make me laugh it's just another way of fining the unaware and making a couple of quid out of us coz as we all know the tax/ins dodgers don't give a monkey's anyway
So please check the tax disc's on your projects and sorn them sharpish

Been down this route before Please be aware that as with a lot of the guys on the forum, if you acquire a bike/vehicle which was previously taxed before 31st January 1998 and not since you do NOT require SORN or road tax so long as it's not used on the public highways. DVLA's guidance lists the following for reasons when SORN is NOT required..... When SORN isn't needed SORN isn’t needed if: * you no longer have the vehicle and DVLA has been informed * your insurance company has written off the vehicle * you take the vehicle abroad permanently * you apply for a refund of vehicle tax and don’t keep the vehicle * you are keeping the vehicle off the road and untaxed for less than 14 days * your vehicle was last taxed before 31 January 1998 Please take note that the legal owner of the vehicle may not neccessarily be the person responsible for the SORN statement and prosecutions/fines may follow. DVLA will respond in writing free of charge notifying you of discharged responsibilities so grab it when you can and ensure that money goes on beer and not to the FAT CATS ;D

* you are keeping the vehicle off the road and untaxed for less than 14 days I am very suprised at this statement, I got fined a few years ago, when the SORN originally came out, bike broke down and took a few weeks to repair, soon got the letter and fine cos it was flagged as untaxed or SORN'd, wouldn't risk it much more than a week, but its so easy to do online, I wont take the risk anymore, let them issue the paperwork and send it to me (can't quite think there's anything human involved in either process TBH
