hi guys... bloody vin number question again ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) a mate bought a really clean 250lc last night.. frame been powdercoated..and vin number not readable as the coating has covered it completely... the old and new v5 that came with the bike shows engine and frame numbers match... engine number on bike matches v5 and as he cant read the chassis number is happy that the number do match... what i wanted to ask was..both v5,s state frame number as 4L1-0306*** 7 digits.. engine number 4L1-306*** 6 digits has there been a mistake in the v5 when first registered?..should there be 7 digits on the frame number starting with 0? his bike was first registered as new in sept 1981... should a 81 bike vin numbers start 4L1-300101 vin numbers for 1980 4L1-000101 1981 4L1-300101 1982 4L1-500101 just looked at v5 of my own 250lc...i have both old and new style logbooks... my engine number on logbook is 4L1-306*** AND VIN NUMBER 4L1-306*** 6 DIGIT chassis number on both ive seen a 350lc with an incorrect routed clutch cable actually almost rub the vin numbers away...

the extra 0 on the v5 is quite common have seen it many times esp on A/C RD's I think its because when bikes where registered at the local DVLA office the paperwork was filled out by hand and I think people added the 0 to fiil the spaces on the form now every thing is printed on the forms by computors
