the rd250lc i recently bought of a mate had been blasted prior to him repainting the frame... as i wasnt happy with the 2 pack finish on the frame..too much orange peel.. i stripped the bike back down again and rubbed down the frame paint to key for the new paint.. i noticed on the headtstock the chassis number was barely visible.. i could just about make it out and it checked ok with the v5.. rang my mate and he said when it come back from being bead blasted the chassis number was almost gone... ive since primed and repainted and laquered the frame and the numbers have disapeared...thought they might have fallen on the floor but couldnt find them :-)
even with a magnifying glass i can hardly see any markings at all.... what if the mot guy wants to see the chassis number..will he accept me telling him they were worn off in the blasting process? or is there anyone who could restamp the frame for me?

you mot man will want to see the chassis number as he has to check it through a computer. If you are good terms with him he might take it from the V5 or you could take a thin piece of paper and a soft pencil and get him to do a rubbing of the number.

The MOT inspector has the option on the computer to say "frame number not visable" You will need to take the V5 when you have an MOT. DO NOT RE-STAMP THE FRAME This is illegal and will cause loads of problems in the future. (makes your bike look stolen) Its very difficult to re-stanp the frame and make it look like a Yamaha stamp. Strip the paint and see it the numbers are there then just give it a light dusting with a spray can. Do not sand the paint off but use nitromores and mask the area, a dirty job but sanding will make the numbers worse but Nitromores is an acid and that will highlight the numbers.

The MOT guys normally just use the existing V5 info as hard to read headstock as most of these are not easy to read.

If it's annoying you that much. I'll take the frame and v5 off your hands.
