So engine is fully rebuilt with new friction plates, new seals, new rubber rings between plates, new cable, new mechanism and adjustrer that fits onto the left hand side case and the ball bearing is in. All this but the clutch lever is almost impossible to pull back and there is no drive to the real wheel. Oh B*ll*cks Any ideas anyone

I wound the adjuster in at the side of the case. The adjuster on the level is fully in

I can just pull the lever in and select a gear without any crunching noises but when i let the clutch back out bugger all happens at the back wheel. When i was putting the engine together i tested turning the clutch basket in place and it drove the front sprocket fine

Maybe you installed the outer pressure plate incorrectly? If you install this part incorrectly, the clutch won't work, it won't put any pressure on the plate assembly. This would explain why there's no banging/crunching noises as you put a gear in but still has no drive on the rear wheel.

on the subject of clutches does anyone know what the little arrows on the clutch drum and outer cover are for? are they supposed to be alaigned? and if so, why??? Yes they shall be aligned, if you put the pressure plate on wrong, it won't go all the way in so it meets the clutch plates assembly. Thing is, you have six different ways you can slot the pressure plate on, (six springs = six different ways to put the pressure plate on) but only three of them works. This is why they marked one of the correct settings. So, the markings are not very important, (although I tend to follow them anyway just for the sake of it) what's important is that you slot the pressure plate into one of the 3 correct ways.
