well i stripped my motor outa frame after the blow up at the isle of man tt and the news is not good .took head off and rhs piston has disintragated!looks like no damage to lhs at all small end and big end bearings caput .gunna have to split crankcases and see what other damage is done but at the moment im looking at new pistons, con rods, small and big end bearings, and probably new crank or recon one of norbo.couldent take anymore today so i just left it on my bench to strip it maybe next week.dunno wat the cause was but i persume by the state of piston it was no oil but im not sure......will put up piccys wen i stop crying this is a real pisser...................

Hard luck there Paul. I have a fairly good 4L0 crank. Came out of a running bike. Come and lift it and get it double checked to make sure all is square. If it'll do you're job, I'll not rob ya (much)

Something wrong with that first pic. All i can see is a reflection of your camera(fone)
2nd pics looks more like a severe overheat due to a serious lack of lube done that.
3 pic thats messy but can be repair at a cost.

The piston tang rarely makes an engine blow up. It CAN happen if you're extremely unlucky, but mostly they just get a bit rounded off and won't be in the way. Once rounded off, the risk of the tang jamming the inlet port is absolutely minimal, so IF the tang is responsible, it would most likely be in the very early life of the piston. I don't know what the hell happened to your engine, it's hard to give a diagnosis when you have a blown bigend bearing AND an overheated/blown up piston. What part decided to go pop first? And what was the cause? You tell me lol.. I'd say it was an overheated piston, but why the bigend went, I don't know. It could also be the bigend that went pop, taking the piston with it.

There looks a hell of a lot of corrosion in there, has the bike been left standing or has the gasket let coolant into the crank and accelerated wear ? dont think so , coolant levels wer ok.looks worse in piccys but not much worse ;D.

Big end breaks up, needle rollers floating around the bottom, then up the transfer ports, onto the top of the piston-hence the mess on top big end all sloppy, then bang!! Mind you I've just had a few stellas.... ;D
