Just fitted top end and used my mates torque wrench well he used it. When I filled system it pished out from front center ! I am hoping its the torque setting but is it likely to be anything else ? He had to use a conversion table as it wasnt in lb's. The head looks straight, bit of tiny pitting at front see photo. Attachments:

I always found that the torque setting is too low and tightened them a bit more. Just make sure that you do them in the right sequence.

Only a tad more by the way !!! They normally dribble for a bit but once the engine has be run a bit they often seal themselves. If not once cool give them a little tweek. Put some wet and dry on a sheel of glass and smooth off head and barrel tops that way to ensure a FLAT finish .

get a flat surface like a pain of glass or marble top on kicthen and tape some really fine sandpaper on to it. then get ur head and using a figure of 8 motion face the head thats pitted.use wd 40 to lube wen doing this.it wil take them pits and small marks of it. i always use sealent even with gen yam gaskets,as these bikes are nearly 30 yo at this stage and need every help they can get.

As above, thin smear of sealant.mine leaked in front centre and it was genuine gasket. Another thing i've been told by the guru is fit the head to barrels first then bolt the barrels to cases

Suggest spending large:-) and having the thing resurfaced. Yours is crappy. At least removing the lip on the combustion chamber and having the squish reprofiled to match the piston crown curve. This will improve the squish and Ensure a flat (not to mention decent )surface. And NO these do not dribble 'for a while' on first install ...if all is healthy /new.

Id just clean down wipe over with thinners and use instent gasket on both sides of the head gasket and torke down a little over the stting of 17.5 i normaly do 20. do them in sequance as well . and do it worm not stone cold as the instent wont go of .

If that was mine, I think I would be looking for another head, where did all the damage come from, was it hammered/levered off the barrels, there are a few places where the damage is close to the barrel studs and could cause a problem with leakage too.
Flatting it is free, so probably worth a go, have you measured the barrel heights to see if they are exactly the same?? could be a mismatched pair.

Bloody brilliant fixed leaking head by putting sealer on and guess what ? now its pissing out of base of cylinder gasket. So that has to have sealer on as well then

Problem solved. High temp silicon sealant just a smear on both faces. Then torque up head to 20 foot pounds. Fill system and then start engine quickly as poss. You may have a bit of a weep as engine hots up but this will stop as engine gets hot. As Mr Norbo says. Then let engine run for 30 mins minimum or until it gets well warm middle of temp range on dial. Then allow to cool and re-torque.
